1st International Steel Art Symposium, 2024 – Baku, Azerbaijan

The King (Lion) — 6 feet tall, 4 tonnes of scrap reborn. From waste to wonder, art becomes a roar for sustainability.

In just 11 and a half days, Haribaabu Naatesan brought to life “The King (Lion)” — a 6-foot, 4-ton sculpture crafted entirely from metal waste sourced from the scrap section of Baku Steel Company.

Grateful to Baku Steel Company and Q-gallery for this incredible platform to merge art with advocacy. His vision was to let the scrap speak for itself — preserving the natural shapes of discarded materials to form the lion’s anatomy: pelvic bone, spinal cord, ribcage, paws… each piece carrying its own story of transformation.

The King (Lion) now stands as a powerful symbol of sustainability, recycling, and resilience in art — reminding us that even in stillness, there is life; and in every end, a new beginning.
